Students From Trine Engineering Institute Won Championship in the 9th English Debate Competition
日前,陕西理工大学第九届大学生英语辩论赛决赛圆满结束。本次比赛由陕西理工大学科技文化领导小组主办,外语学院承办,由来自外国语学院、人文学院、教科学院、特莱恩工学院、博望书院的16名选手组成的4支队伍参加,我院共4名选手晋级决赛。经过激烈角逐,我院电气专业2402的张熙然和2401的陶怡舟获得一等奖,2人同时包揽了最佳辩手奖,张熙然斩获最佳语音奖,网络专业2302的石城安获得二等奖,电气专业2303的雷子乐获得优秀奖。 张熙然和陶怡舟将代表我校参加4月中旬举行的第27届“外研社·国才杯”全国大学生英语辩论赛华西地区复赛。
Recently, the final round of Shaanxi University of Technology 9th English Debate Competition concluded successfully. The event was organized by the University’s Science and Culture Leadership Group and hosted by the School of Foreign Languages. Participants included 16 contestants from four teams representing the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Humanities, the School of Education, the Trine Engineering Institute, and the Bowen Academy. Four of our students advanced to the finals. After intense competition, Zhang Xiran (Electrical Engineering 2402) and Tao Yizhou (Electrical Engineering 2401) won first prize, both also receiving the Best Debater Award, with Zhang Xiran additionally earning the Best Pronunciation Award. Shi Cheng’an (Network Engineering 2302) secured second prize, while Lei Zile (Electrical Engineering 2303) received an Honorable Mention. Zhang Xiran and Tao Yizhou will represent our university in the 27th "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" National English Debate Competition’s West China Regional Finals in mid-April.

本次比赛采用英国议会制(BP)辩论模式,决赛以“Should universities ban the use of generative Al(e.g.,ChatGPT)in academic assignments?”(大学是否应禁止在学术作业中使用生成式人工智能,如ChatGPT?)和“Is living on campus a better choice than renting an apartment off-campus?”(住在校园里比在校外租公寓是否是更好的选择?)为辩题,要求辩手在发言中融合逻辑论证、修辞技巧与即兴反应(如质询环节),培养学生的信息甄别力与视角切换力。比赛过程中,我院选手凭借流利过硬的英语表达,严密的逻辑思维,机智灵活的辩论风格,出色的临场发挥,最终力克群雄,在决赛中脱颖而出。此次比赛不仅是言语的交锋,更是思维的较量,选手们在辩论中不断思辨、体悟、成长,展现辩论魅力。
The competition adopted the British Parliamentary (BP) debate model. The final rounds featured the motions: "Should universities ban the use of generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT) in academic assignments?" and "Is living on campus a better choice than renting an apartment off-campus?" Debaters were required to integrate logical reasoning, rhetorical skills, and quick thinking (e.g., during rebuttals) to demonstrate their ability to discern information and shift perspectives. Throughout the competition, our students stood out with their fluent English, rigorous logic, agile debating style, and outstanding performance under pressure, ultimately emerging victorious. The competition was not just a battle of words but a contest of intellect, where participants continuously refined their critical thinking, gained insights, and grew—showcasing the true charm of debate.

特莱恩工学院以创新及学科竞赛为突破口,引导激励学生积极参加全国各类比赛,充分彰显我院“以赛促教、以赛促学、以赛促长”的育人理念。学院英语语言中心于3月中旬组织召开2025年英语类学科竞赛动员宣讲会,以院长助理吴静和英语课程组苏红莲为指导教师组的培训老师对学生英语演讲、英语辩论等进行一系列专题训练,经精心准备,张熙然和陶怡舟同学一路过关斩将,实现了我院在这一赛事新的突破。
Trine Engineering Institute has made innovation and academic competitions a key focus, encouraging students to actively participate in national contests, fully embodying our educational philosophy of "promoting teaching, learning, and growth through competition." In mid-March, the Institute’s English Language Center held a mobilization session for the 2025 English academic competitions. Under the guidance of Dean Assistant Wu Jing and English instructor Su Honglian, students underwent specialized training in English public speaking and debate. After meticulous preparation, Zhang Xiran and Tao Yizhou fought their way to victory, achieving a new milestone for our institute in this competition.
学院将持续为学生打造更多思想交流、英语能力提升的平台,加强学科竞赛指导,促进思辨对话,以多元视角激活创新思维,提升学生的英语综合能力。
Moving forward, the institute will continue to provide students with more platforms for intellectual exchange and English proficiency enhancement, strengthen academic competition guidance, foster critical dialogue, and stimulate innovative thinking through diverse perspectives—all to further elevate students’comprehensive English abilities.
